About the Teacher
My name is Bill and I have been a Dundee-based professional musician and guitar teacher for over 30 years. I am lucky enough to be able to earn my living from being able to either make music or help others discover how to make it themselves - particularly by playing the guitar. As a musician and songwriter I have been fortunate enough to have performed my own compositions on national TV and radio, I've been in bands with record deals (remember them?!) and I've performed at music festivals, appeared on TV programmes and played in venues large and small across the UK and abroad. I've also been employed as a session musician and at various other times of my life I've played guitar and occasionally bass in lots of other set ups - covers bands, pub and wedding bands, folk bands, jazz trios, funk bands, theatre groups - I've done the odd solo gigs as well but that's not my favourite scenario. Although I've always written and played my own compositions I've always been very much a team player and have preferred working in a supportive role for much of the time. These days I still write and record when I can get the time - although teaching is thankfully still keeping me busy. I am always keen to help my students feel comfortable and relaxed in their lessons - thinking of ourselves as equals on a journey together - as we discover the kind of guitar player you really want to be. I will share my experience with you and I'll hopefully help you avoid making the same mistakes I might have made all those years ago. And if I try I can probably think of one or two right now! As your personal guitar coach just consider me as a kind of shortcut - travelling to a destination that might otherwise have taken you much longer. I am happy to take you on that journey - knowing for a fact that my one to one guitar lessons are able to help you achieve any of your musical goals. I have had many students who have gone on to use their talents as musicians in bands - and even as guitar tutors themselves. I notice that my rates are usually more reasonable than half the people I see on the internet these days - so don't worry about breaking the bank - just check with me for the latest lesson costs. If you decide to try a few lessons with me there is no obligation - you can walk away anytime and you can stay for as long as you want - in fact I realise I've still got a student or two who first came to me around ten years ago and stayed - not that it's compulsory!
